From what I can gather, 2K is essentially giving people the run-around on this issue, pretending it falls under the TOS of "server shutdowns" when in fact shutting down the single player aspect of the game is most certainly NOT covered by the TOS.
What they are doing here is clearly illegal, but it would require a class action to force their hand. I fully expect 2k to do nothing to help me, but I said the following in my support ticket this morning:. The basic problem is this: 2k18 gets "stuck" at the [Downloading Game Updates] screen indefinitely. It will NOT download updates or boot into the game. The screen indicates "Press A to Continue", but this does nothing.
Additionally, there are numerous NEW XBL reviews of 2k18 over the past weeks from unhappy 2K owners who wrote reviews of the game specifically for this reason. So far no one appears to have found a solution or received any help from 2K Sports. I do not understand how this game is still for sale anywhere online since it simply does not work. There are a lot of people out there who would appreciate a small patch to make this game playable offline as promised.
It is quite sad that 2K may be abandoning older versions of their annualized sports games, especially since each iteration has specific qualities that various gamers may prefer even over the newer versions.
Hopefully this can be fixed soon. As recently as May 7, , I have experienced the same problem. Although I have later versions of the game, I enjoy playing 2K First of all, I'm not a hard core gamer.
This problem was corrected by completely deleting the saved data from the console and elsewhere. I believe its the second tab. After doing this procedure and restarting the console.
I was able to start the game. I was then prompted to create a player e. Again, I' am not a hard core gamer. So, I don't know if this procedure removes roster updates, system updates or personalized teams etc.
Like other individuals on the forum, I did all of the reinstalls, resets and everything else imaginable and the game would get stuck at the downloading update screen with no progression. Foolish on my part, I never opened the player packs so I lost them. As I said, I'm not a hard core gamer, I just play the game offline. Nevertheless, I hope this works for everyone having this problem. Please remember, you might lose some of your prized data, but at it least the game plays and hopefully for you.
What worked for me was clearing the reserved space. To do that you got click manage on your 2KMTCentral and scroll down all the way. Only clear the reserved data. Do not clear your profile data.
